Max is living proof that apprenticeships work and that the phrase ‘If it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ sums up everything that is good about the concept. Hillier Hill, perhaps controversially, says: ‘Max apparently arrived as the standard product of our education system, which effectively meant that we had to do the job the teachers should have done over the previous 12 years.’ Despite this, and with Hillier Hill’s admittedly “somewhat blunt” educational methods and guidance, Max has steadily matured into a competent member of the team. The combination of the Heritage Skills Academy’s approach and working with a team of no-nonsense professionals at Hillier Hill, has allowed Max to mature both as a person and as a mechanic. He is diligent, methodical and most of all he cares about what he does and how he can continue to improve. He is a credit to himself and the industry in which he has chosen to work.
