Heritage Engineering Apprenticeships Awards
Awarded in recognition of his contribution to the development of the Trailblazer Heritage Engineering Apprenticeship programme.
Karl lives in Suffolk with his wife Elaine. He was formally Agriculture and Operations Director for British Sugar with significant experience in large-scale manufacturing and engineering. As a former apprentice himself whose responsibilities included running the apprenticeship academy at British Sugar, he was ideally placed to kick-off the creation of the FBHVC-created Apprenticeships in Classic Vehicle Restoration in 2014.
Since then he has been actively hands-on in developing the Heritage Engineering programme through his role as Director of Skills at the FBHVC since 2013 and as deputy-Chair of the Federation Skills Trust.
Karl is a member of the Alvis Owner Club.

The object of The Federation Skills Trust is the advancement of education by promoting, whether directly through financial or other support, the training and teaching of engineering skills and processes and by encouraging and supporting the development and transference of skills appertaining to the repair, maintenance, preservation and renovation of all types of heritage transport, historic vehicle and machinery.
The Trust was established as a product of the cooperation between the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs and The Galashan Trust around heritage engineering apprenticeships. We have contributed financially and in practical ways with the establishment of apprenticeship training providers including the Heritage Skills Academy.

The Alvis Owners Club
The Alvis Owner Club (AOC) was founded in 1951. The AOC caters for owners of all Alvis cars, including military vehicles and anyone interested in the Alvis marque. You do not have to own an Alvis to be a member of the AOC.
A key directive of the club is the preservation of Alvis vehicles and the provision of practical support to members.
The AOC is a very proactive club running social and competitive events for all Alvis vehicle enthusiasts and providing a wide variety of services and support to over 1200 members worldwide. There are seven UK sections (Scottish Northern, Midland, East Anglian, South East, South West, Wales), plus active overseas sections in the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and North America.
So why not become a member and join an exciting, enthusiastic and proactive car club.

The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs
The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs exists to uphold the freedom to use historic vehicles on the road. It does this by representing the interests of owners of such vehicles to politicians, government officials, and legislators both in the UK and (through the Federation Internationale des Vehicules Anciens) in Europe.
The F.B.H.V.C. with the aid of The Galashan Trust and many others was instrumental in the creation of both the Levels 2 & 3 apprenticeship frameworks and of the Level 3 Heritage Engineering Apprenticeship Standard which replaced them in 2019.
